Weight Watching
As I child I remember there were a few places like railway station, fair and a Doctor's clinic where weighing machines were available. The first two charged money to tell his how much we weighed. Today we not only have weighing machines at home but also have fancy mobile applications which we can integrate to record weight, give us the analytics and also do more calculations like BMI etc from that.
Does it mean we do weight watch everyday? I am not sure. The access is easy but so is the resistance to confront our own weight. We may try to hide our absence of weight watching under the carpet of being busy etc., but the one other reason is that we don't want to face it. We cannot control, manage or improve that we cannot or do not measure. Thus, weight watching is a critical habit when it comes to weight management and fitness. Reduce the resistance to weight watching by:
- Set realistic goals: Instead of aiming for drastic weight loss, set achievable goals that are within your reach. This can help you feel more motivated and encouraged, rather than feeling overwhelmed.
- Start small: Small changes in your daily routine can add up to big results over time. Start by making small changes like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or swapping out sugary drinks for water.
- Find an accountability partner: Having someone to support you and hold you accountable can be very helpful. This can be a friend, family member, or a professional like a personal trainer or a registered dietitian.
- Focus on non-scale victories: Weight is just one aspect of your overall health. Celebrate other achievements like increased energy, improved mood, and better sleep.
- Make it enjoyable: Weight watching doesn't have to be a chore. Find physical activities you enjoy doing, and try new healthy recipes that you find tasty.
- Avoid comparing yourself to others: Everyone's journey to a healthy weight is different. Comparing yourself to others can lead to feelings of discouragement and even give up on your goals.
- Be kind to yourself: Remember that weight loss is a process and that setbacks will happen. Don't beat yourself up for occasional slip-ups, and instead, focus on getting back on track.
