Stop bad habits: Acceptance

I know people talk about good addiction too these days. So, let me specifically say bad addictions or bad habits. You only try to justify them with different names till the time you are denying of its presence in your life. Your recovery doesn't start when you stop the habit. It starts when you accept that you have a problem. In some cases a serious problem. My recovery too started with acceptance and thus I would like to consider it as the very first tool towards recovery.

Acceptance is not only limited to acknowledging the problem but also involves accepting difficult emotions and experiences, rather than trying to control or eliminate them. When we accept difficult thoughts and emotions to be a normal part of the human experience, we can create more space for change and growth.

Acceptance also gives you access to find the reason of your addiction. Is it your coping mechanism to manage stress in a perticular area of your life, does it gives you a sense of control or is it something which distracts you from the happenings in your life? Knowing the source will help you deal with the root cause rather than fighting the symptoms.

No one else can solve the problem of addiction for us. I didn't stop my bad habits with will power , I could stop it because I could see the truth of it. See the truth you your addictions. Thus, self acceptance becomes the biggest stepping stone on the journey of a addiction free, meaningful and healthy life.
